Got Thoughts? Sound Familiar?
My child is addicted, and it means that:
"Their life is so hard, they will suffer"
"Their future is limited, destroyed"".
"They will never be happy"
"They're unable to care for themselves"
"I will never be happy"
"I did something wrong"
and on, and on, and on, and on
You're not alone if you've had these thoughts, and more. It's part of being human and when in situations that naturally bring on stress. We've learned and adopted lots of beliefs about our children, their life, what a mother is and what a mother should or shouldn't do. But many of them cause fear, worry, anger, guilt, and that will block the full power of your love.
You don't want to be alone feeling stuck there though! And you don't have to!
This is why it becomes so important to know that fear can be the gateway to being stuck or to peace ~ if and when you question the thoughts that lead to stress, confusion, and conflict. Because what you're thinking and believing might not be the whole truth, and probably isn't. And when you know the truth, it sets you free. Would you like that kind of freedom?
Question Your Thinking, Change Your World
Loving from a place of peace (not fear) can solve a whole lot of stress and confusion!
“Your child does drugs and you get your hit by believing the horror movies in your head. I did this Work and set myself free. And it was so attractive to my daughter that she ended up setting herself free.”
~ Byron Katie
Welcome, I'm Joanne
Hello to you, my fellow courageous mom. I'm Joanne Richards, mom of a child who struggles with substance use and mental health issues. I'm also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie, Certified Grief Educator, with a Certification in The Invitation to Change and Trauma Sensitive Heart Math. I've earned a broad personal and professional perspective of loving a child through addiction.
I believe that unless and until we do our own healing, we will remain in a cycle of suffering. I have caused more difficulty, estrangement, and increased struggle because I just didn't know or wasn't doing enough for my inner peace. Much of it was preventable. Of course, I didn't do it deliberately, I did it because of fear, lack of knowledge and skills.
Fear is the number one contributing factor that causes so many preventable problems. That's why I really want to support moms through the hard stuff with expert coaching, meaningful discussion, and doable skill building within a safe, supportive, and understanding community of other moms, to be informed and have a treasure box of tools to make the hard easier.

Introducing From Fear to Love
What if peace is possible even when your child is struggling?
Welcome to a 6-week inner journey to cultivate healing for your mind, body, and spirit. Whether you are new to your circumstances or have been at it a while, whether you've done The Work or not, you have a home here in a community of heart-centered moms who understand and know there is a kinder way.
In From Fear to Love, we practice The Work of Byron Katie, a simple process of self-inquiry that helps us identify and question the thoughts that cause all those tough emotions you don't want to feel, except you do, and are the cause of reacting verses responding.
Discover the ways in which you can hold all these tough emotions and situations, while we invite it all in as a teacher, and a catalyst for transformation, self-growth, and for the inner peace you need, especially when you and your child face the complications of addiction. We also add somatic exercises to calm the body and nervous system so that when you need to call on all your reserves, you are prepared, ready, willing, and able!
